The Changing of my Hometown

The civilizations have changed many time from the past 100 years until today, and many countries have changed from era to the next era also.
I can't demonstarte very well about how far the civilizations have changed or how other countries have developed, but I can explan about Thailand, which is a country in South East Asia. My hometown "Bangkok" has changed a lot from 100 years ago to now in 3 ways: the building, transportation, and the life style of the people.

The buildings have changed in many ways in a 100 years ago. a hundred years ago, people usually made their house by themselves, and they used a ton of wood to make it. They believed that wood is very was very strong. Moreover, wood was very simple and easy to find in the past 100 years. Unlike the past, today people always build a house with concrete because its structure is stronger than wood, but for some reasons many people still prefer to build a house with wood. Building a house with wood in this erais very expensive because people used up wood to make a single house or furnitures. A hundred years ago there were a lot of small houses near the river because the river was the best source for living, but now today there are plenty of hotels near the river. Lots of hotel companies believe that having a hotel near the river is more attractive to the tourist than in downtown.

Transportation is one of the changes in the last 100 years. A hundred years ago people used to go everywhere by boat, rail road, or the three-wheel bycicle. It took very long time if one who was in vital circumstance to reach to the place. However, these form of transportation did not make the air polution problem. For example, a hundred years ago people used a boat that was different from now. In addition, thet did not use the engine boat, so there was not any oil contaminating in the river. Moreover, there were only two lanes of rail road for each road. On the other hand, today people prefer to buy they own car. Maybe they think that having a car can demonstrate that they are rich. Besides, rail road might be too slow for today. The most significant change that I see is the three-wheel bycicle. The three-wheel bycicle is different from a regular bycicle because it has one wheel at the front and two more wheels behind the front wheel. In the past people used three-wheel bycicle to go to a placethat was not really far. A rider of the three-wheel bycicle would ride around the town and when he saw a customer he would stop and carry them. After that, the customers had to pay for the ride, which was not really expensive. These forms of transportation were very important in the past, and it made my hometown calm. However, today my hometown has a ton of cars, subway, and motorcycles. These make people feel more comfortable, but it makes a lot of polutions too.

The last difference of my hometown after it has been changing is the lifestyle of people. Before I was born, people lived amore simple life. They used to work in their farm, but today everyone wants towork in a big company. There are only a few farmers who live in the country who are still living this simple life. In the past , people slept very early because not every single house had electricity. However, today my hometown never stops no matter if it is day or night. Some people said, this is the cause of crime. In addition, some people have to work really hard to pay their bills, and they have to work untill 10 pm. at night. In the past, people were able to buy their meal just only 25 cent (Thai currency 1 Baht = 100 cent, 35 Baht= 1 dollar), but now one meal is about 35 baht. Even though some people say that this is because of the economy is growing bigger than before, but I think money makes people life unbalance. In summary, people in the past had a more simply life than people today.

Everything in my hometown has been changing such as the constructions, the transportation. and lifestyle of people. I can not make the world stop. I can just recollect some of my memories in the past, and remember the revolution of everything that I have known since I was a boy. I could never know the result of this alteration. My deep hope is that people will be able to adjust themselves to this change and try to understand it.

Achievment

My mother drew a distinction between achievement and success. She said that 'achievement is the knowledge that you have studied and worked hard and done the best that is in you. Success is being praised by others, and that's nice, too, but not as important or satisfying. Always aim for achievement and forget about success.'
Helen Hayes The reason why I like this quote because it show me to compare between the achievment and success, and I think the same as the writter, too. Achievement is totally important for my life. Achievement is everything that I have done since I know how to solve the problem. Achievment requires patient, and achievment has to exchange with many mistakes.
Success is just being praised by others. Some people is success by a lotto ticket, or some just receive the money from their parent and make their own business and success. Both of Achievment and Success are good, but I recommend to pay attention more in Achievment. Everything I have studied can teach me how to solve the problem. Every mistakes I have done can make me realize not to do it again. Achievment is keep growing every days untill the last day of life.
